What is a 4-Day Work Week?
What exactly is a four-day work week? A four-day work week is also referred to as a compressed work week. Our pest control service team continued to work 40 hours a week, but they were scheduled for only four days a week. Most pest control companies work 5-6 days per week for a total of 45-60 hours, so to find a company that is committed to 38-45 hours per week and only four days per week with some on-call days is an uncommon practice in the pest control industry. Our team loves their extra day off each week. Some dedicate their extra time mid-week to hobbies, some spend more time with their family, and others appreciate being able to catch up on work around the house so that their weekends are free.
How Did All-American Successfully Implement a 4-Day Work Week?
All-American Pest Control did not take the decision to adopt a four-day work week lightly. Our decision process began in the summer of 2016 and included thorough research and employee feedback. We knew that to be successful, we had to make sure that the results included wins for our customers, wins for our employees, and wins for our company. We weren’t able to simply hire more people to enable four-day work week scheduling for our team and customers. We knew that we had to be innovative to streamline processes, move to paperless communication, and ensure that we were as productive in four days as five days. We were committed to our team maintaining or increasing their annual compensation rate while also receiving more time off. We launched a four-day work week for our pest control service team in January 2018. Currently, employee positions within our company have a couple of different work schedule structures. Some are true four-day work week schedules, while others are a hybrid schedule in which one week is a full five-day schedule and the next is a four-day schedule. The extra day off differs by employee in order to maintain consistent service to our customers.

Why Do Employees Benefit From A 4-Day Work Week?
Having an extra day off each week sounds pretty good on its own, but that’s only one of the many benefits that employees gain from a four-day work week.
In a world where people are beginning to realize that the 24/7 hustle isn’t a healthy way to live, a four-day work week improves your work-life balance while still providing you with the income that you need from a full-time job. Instead of using your extra day off to get a second job, you’ll have more time for family, friends, and personal activities.
Having more quality time to spend the way you want can help reduce burnout at work. Less burnout can improve your mental and physical well-being. Furthermore, by having more time off, you’re more likely to take care of yourself through exercise, getting enough sleep, and even scheduling routine medical appointments that you might otherwise put off due to lack of time off.
Performing meaningful work is essential to your sense of well-being, but if the work you do feels like it’s taking over your entire life, you won’t be satisfied with that job. A four-day work week helps improve your overall job satisfaction by allowing you to do your job with excellence while still maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Our customers’ satisfaction was one of the most important considerations when determining whether or not to move to a four-day work week schedule. If this schedule required an interruption or delay in the services we provide or lowered our standard of service, it simply wouldn’t work. Thankfully, that has not been the case.
Our service quality has remained consistent, and in some cases even improved, as we’ve made the switch to a four-day work week. We have happy, satisfied customers whose positive reviews on Google speak to the success of our schedule.
