Peter Greene is one of our exemplary pest control pros. After serving in the military, Peter joined the All-American team in 2022. Through his work and dedication, he helps advance All-American’s mission, serving with care, precision, and community connection. Learn more about Peter and what it takes to be a pest control professional below.
Starting the Day
The life of a pest control professional follows certain routines, but no two days are ever quite the same. Even the season affects what Peter’s schedule looks like.
In the summer, bug activity is at its highest, and so are the calls for appointments. Peter’s day most often begins by visiting a customer’s home for a scheduled appointment. He keeps certain essentials always stocked in his van. These include:
-
A five-gallon backpack sprayer for perimeter treatments
-
A five-gallon backpack mister for mosquito and flying insect treatments
-
A one-gallon sprayer for interior baseboard treatments
-
A web duster pole to remove spider webs
Peter also has a favorite pest control tool: A duster. He describes it as similar to a turkey baster. Filled with diatomaceous earth, he uses it to dust areas like carpenter bee holes and areas where brown recluse spiders live. He loves it because of how effective it is at eliminating these pests.
Service Team members have a variety of work to complete in a day, some scheduled appointments and some customers who just ask us to show up when they are due for their service. The services include perimeter treatments and spider web sweeps to keep homes pest-free through each changing season.
Things look a little bit different in the winter. With bug activity at its lowest, fewer people call requesting appointments. This provides the opportunity for annual termite inspections to be completed. Termites never rest, so maintaining an effective termite control plan for the homes Peter services allows him to assure his customers that termites will not damage their homes.
Life on the Road and in the Field
Each pest control pro at All-American Pest Control has their own service route, though we work in teams for adequate coverage. This ensures continuity of care and allows the technician to know the area best. This is beneficial to both the techs and the homeowners. Our pros get to know your home and unique pest problems, so they know what to focus on each time they go to your home. You get to know your team of pest experts and build a relationship and trust with them.
Peter loves helping his customers solve their pest problems and he approaches each house with fresh eyes, knowing that every home’s pest control issues are unique. His most common call is for fire ants, which is probably why these pests have become the ones he’s most fascinated by. Not only is he interested in how smart and strategic they are, but he also finds it interesting that they are so prevalent in his service area, while techs in areas just 10-15 miles away have never had a fire ant call.
Helping Homeowners, One Visit at a Time
Pest control experts truly wear a lot of hats. They have extensive knowledge of many different pests, their behavior, and what treatments are most effective against each species. They have to be friendly, personable, and trustworthy. They can alleviate concerns and calm fears, while providing understandable answers to homeowners’ questions. They are incredibly observant, since identifying the source of the pest issue is the key to unlocking the most effective solution.
Although it can be hard work, Peter greatly enjoys his job and places solving his customers’ problems as his favorite aspect of it. There is something greatly satisfying about ending each day knowing that you’ve made a positive impact on other people’s lives.
Favorite Moments (and Surprises)
Peter has encountered his fair share of interesting pest problems in his time at All-American Pest Control. The one that stands out the most is when a customer called to tell him that she had scorpions all over her house. This was, of course, a huge cause for concern, so he was quick to respond and thrilled when he discovered that they weren’t in fact scorpions, but earwigs.
He also found satisfaction in the time he helped a homeowner solve an American cockroach problem. They couldn’t figure out where the problem was originating, in part because there weren’t many attractants around the property and no trees were close enough to the house to act as bridges.
Peter put on his detective hat and performed a careful inspection, following the clues he found along the way. A dead cockroach in the attic signaled that he was on the right path. A trail of droppings confirmed his theory.
Finally, he discovered the nest in the eaves and realized that the cockroaches were surviving by feeding on organic matter in the home’s clogged gutters. The homeowner cleaned out the gutters and the cockroach problem was resolved.
A similar story took place in the basement of a house experiencing a mouse problem. After hunting around for a while, Peter noticed a substantial amount of mouse urine on an HVAC pipe. He followed the pipe and found a sizable hole that rodents were using to enter and exit the house. After sealing up the hole, the homeowners had no further problems.
Why Peter Loves Working at All-American
Peter has found his work at All-American to be deeply satisfying, and part of the reason for that is because of the company culture. Although he’s never worked at another pest control company before, so he can’t compare the experiences, he’s been impressed with the balance All-American has found between their ability to be an organized and well-run machine and their willingness to give techs the independence they need to grow professionally and personally.
Peter has a manager who not only supports him, but also encourages him to explore the ideas he has to improve the company (Way to go, Bert!). He has a leadership team that supports his professional goals, making him a mentor for newer technicians. He’s given room to solve his customers’ problems, knowing he has a huge support system behind him when he needs it.
Advice for Future Pest Pros
If you’re considering a future in pest control, Peter thinks it’s worth exploring. Not only is the work rewarding and the company a true team environment, but he’s found that pests are actually really fascinating. The more he learns, the more he’s interested in them, and the better he gets at his job. Pest control wasn’t always on his radar, but he’s glad life brought him in that direction.
