American House Spiders
Female American house spiders range in length from 3/16th-5/16th of an inch. Males of the species are slightly smaller in size. They are yellowish-brown in color and have a dirty white abdomen. They also have distinctive dark chevron markings on their bodies. This spider is the most common species to be found inside homes all across North America.
Are house spiders dangerous?
American house spiders can bite, but usually only do so if they are being cornered, threatened, or squished. The venom from their bite generally does not cause a problem for people, but in some rare circumstances an allergic reaction can occur. American house spiders are generally considered to be nuisance pests.
Why do I have a house spider problem?
As their name suggests, this type of spider is commonly found living inside of homes and other buildings, creating webs to catch their prey. American house spider webs are often found in corners of ceilings, closets, attics and basements. They can be especially prevalent in the fall as they move inside to find a safe place to overwinter in.
