Most spiders are relatively harmless. Spiders like the common house spider, the ferocious looking wolf spider, the cellar spider, the orb spider, and the colorful zipper spider (aka garden) are really nothing more than a nuisance. They may look scary and fierce. Their mere presence can even make a grown man scream like a 2-year-old, but they are considered to be harmless. There are, however, a few species of spiders here in Tennessee that are not harmless. These spiders are the brown recluse spider and the black widow spider. If you think you may have either of these spiders hanging around then it’s high time to contact the experts here at All-American Pest to get rid of them for good.

Brown Recluse Spiders

Just like their name suggests, these brown spiders are not social butterflies, so to speak. They are most happy in dark, quiet and secluded places. They do not enjoy company, light, or movement. These solitary creatures are usually about ¼ to ¾ of an inch in size and have a mark on the top of their body that is in the shape of a violin. When they make it indoors they are commonly found in dark storage areas, and outdoors they are usually found hanging around sheds, wood piles, and piles of debris. If you are unfortunate and are bitten by one of these spiders, don’t panic, but seek out medical attention and advice.

Black Widow Spiders

These are probably one of the most infamous spiders around. These glossy black spiders have a distinct orange or red hourglass shape on their bellies. Females are venomous while the males are not. Female black widow spiders are usually about a ½ inch in length (when they have their legs completely extended). These poisonous spiders enjoy living in areas that are warm and dark. If you think you may have been bitten by a black widow spider you should seek medical attention. Each person and each individual bite can have different reactions. All female black widow bites are venomous and can be dangerous.
