Kudzu Bugs

What are kudzu bugs?

large green kudzu bug

Kudzu bugs are a type of true bug, but because of their appearance, many people think that they are beetles, when, in fact, they are actually more closely related to stink bugs

Adult kudzu bugs grow to be about ¼ of an inch in length (about the size of a ladybug), have a square body shape, and are a mottled, greenish-brown color.

Their sucking, piercing mouthparts are beak-like in appearance.

Are kudzu bugs dangerous?

Kudzu bugs do not pose any danger to people or pets. They are, however, considered to be agricultural pests that cause damage to kudzu, soybeans, and other crops by using their specialized mouthparts to suck the juice out of plants.

Why do I have a kudzu bug problem?

Kudzu bugs often become troublesome during the late fall months. (The kudzu bug made its first appearance in Davidson County, TN in the fall of 2015.) Similar to other overwintering species of insects, kudzu bugs will move to warm sunny sides of homes and other buildings during the autumn months. They then enter the structure through any cracks and crevices they encounter while crawling up the exterior of your home. Once inside, they hide behind walls, in crawl spaces, and underneath floors where they remain dormant until the weather warms and they are able to move outdoors.

Can I do it myself?

Trying to get rid of kudzu bugs on your own is not something many property owners in Nashville or throughout Middle Tennessee have much success with.  Do-it-yourself products can be ineffective and don’t treat the root of the problem, which is to address how the kudzu bugs are entering into your home. These products can also be dangerous for you and your pets to be around if not properly placed or mixed.

Why choose All-American Pest Control?

With over 50 years of experience, we know the time, effort and commitment it takes to solve your kudzu bug problem. With All-American Pest Control, you’ll receive services, a serious commitment, and thorough treatments from our trained pest control experts in Nashville and Middle Tennessee.

How do I prevent a future kudzu bug problem?

The best way to prevent problems with kudzu bugs and other overwintering insects is to seal up any potential entry points in and around your home. Seal or caulk gaps, cracks, and crevices in your foundation and around windows and doors. You should also install door sweeps, and seal around air conditioners and utility entrances. It is also recommended to install tight-fitting chimney caps and check vent covers and roof soffits to ensure they are secure and intact. If you experience problems with kudzu bugs, contact All-American Pest Control and speak to one of our professionals to learn how we can help to control kudzu bugs in your home.
