Ticks are more than just annoying... they can also be dangerous. All-American Pest Control is here to help with some important information to keep you, your family, and your pets safe!

Aaron: “We have three different types of ticks here in Middle Tennessee. They all present their own challenges, have their own unique characteristics, and carry different types of diseases. Here's a quick rundown of those traits and characteristics.”

“First is the American Dog Tick.”

Steve: “The American Dog Tick is a brownish-reddish tick. They prefer deer, larger-size animals in the adult stage. Dogs, deer as I said, cattle, mules. In the junior stage, it'll latch onto raccoons, possums, mice, rats. The American Dog Tick is known to carry the Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, but only 3-5% of the adults are known to actually carry that organism.”

Aaron: “Then there's the Lone Star Tick.”

Steve: “The Lone Star Tick is a slight smaller tick than the American Dog Tick. A big problem with these guys is they, by the hundreds, will mass in vegetation, and folks will get eaten up by the hundreds sometimes by these ticks. They are known to carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever as well, as well as ehrlichiosis and tularemia. Those are the ones you find most common around here that will actually be on the humans. They kind of prefer the humans.”

Aaron: “Finally, the Brown Dog Tick.”

Steve:  “The Brown Dog Tick is a canine-specific tick for the most part. Rarely sometimes they'll go to humans. This tick has been known to carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. This tick can spread canine ehrlichiosis and babesiosis.”

Aaron: “Those are the three types of ticks we have here. As a homeowner, there are a couple things that you can do to help prevent ticks from getting onto your property.”

“Number one, keep animals out of your yard as much as possible. That's going to be the main way they get onto your property is they hitchhike.”

“Number two, make sure all your trash bins, things like that, are sealed off so that it's less likely that you're going to have animals want to come to those.”

“Number three, make sure that animals can't get underneath your porch, deck, crawlspace. Make sure those are all well sealed off. You definitely don't want them getting into those areas.”

Steve: “All-American Pest Control can absolutely help you. We have an All-For-One complete care package where we'll actually treat the property [with] granules, and we also have a misting service where we can treat the tree canopies for these specific pests. The results have been extremely positive, and if they weren't, I would tell you so.”
